Set Dancing

Originally the main focus of the Branch centred around regular music sessions. During the period 1970-1974 Donncha Ó Muíneacháin RIP, who had a keen interest in dancing, held dancing classes under the auspices of Craobh Seán Treacy CCÉ. The first class was held on Thursday 12 November 1970 in Brú na nGael, 6 North Great Georges St, Dublin. Later the venue was changed to 44 Parnell Square. Mostly céilí dancing was taught at these classes but some country sets, such as the North Kerry, Cashel, Caledonian, Ballycommon and the Plain Clare set and step dancing for those who were interested, were introduced.

Gradually with the increase in popularity of set dancing more sets were introduced to Branch sessions and outings.

Other teachers who have contributed to building up the dancing skills of the members of the Branch, both young and older, include Marie MacAodhghán, Mona Leech, Annie O'Donnell, Mary Murphy and Mary Mallon.

There are many good books and music recordings specially tailored for specific sets available and details will be included on this page shortly.
