The Session in Moran's Hotel
Reminiscences by Ann Haverty
Do you remember? . . . . . . .
When the Friday night in Morans was the highlight of the week
The crack was good, the music great and the dancing reached a peak,
There were singers who enthralled us from near and far away
And the magic of the session brought new meaning to our day.
We had caidhps and sets and 8-hand jigs, haymakers, siege and walls
Donncha would line them up and organise it all.
And when Celine could be in town they both would take the floor
The brilliance of their dancing would raise a mighty roar.
Those nights we all remember, the names we can recall
Glackins, Rowsomes, Bergins, Ó hAlmhain, O'Shaughnessy, Mac Gabhann,
Regan, Hackett, Murphy, Leech and Brennan, Carroll and O'Brien
Naughton, Brody . . . many others, all members of renown.
We had visitors from Birmingham, New York and Liverpool
From every town in Ireland and from every dancing school
The fame of Craobh Seán Treacy had spread to places far,
'Twas the place to be on Friday nights for the music and a 'Jar'
Many youngsters of that era over twenty years ago
Are now the great exponents of the fiddle and the bow,
The flute, tin whistle and the box, the pipes and mandolin
We had them all together at the session long ago.
Ah! I remember it well.
